Poster Design

PLANNING

  1. Read play. Ask the producer or director for a copy.
  2. Consult with director, set designer and program coordinator regarding design, style and theme.

WORKING

  1. Consult with printers re printing deadlines. Posters must be ready about two weeks prior to opening night. Submit rough draft to the director and designer one month before opening.
  2. Poster must contain Powerhouse logo, name of play, playwright’s name*, director’s name, dates of run (including year), curtain time and box office phone number. There must also be, where applicable, a notation as to permission to
present play – check with producer. If there is excessive coarse language, use of strobe light, smoking on stage or suggestive sexual content, the appropriate warning should be on the poster.

*Check requirements regarding the size of print used for the playwright’s name. The artistic director should have this information.
  3. Design poster including all necessary information and in keeping with established theme. Submit finished design to the director, set designer and administrative producer for approval one week before printing deadline.
  4. When posters are ready arrange for distribution in key places throughout Vernon and area. Utilize the library for further distribution to other branches throughout the Okanagan. Encourage cast and crew of the play to take a few posters for distribution at their work place and/or places where they do business. Make a notation of where posters have been placed.
  5. Send poster to Powerhouse Theatre website administrator.
  6. Submit any bills and receipts to the administrative producer.

STRIKE

  1. Return job description manual to the producer.
  2. Help strike set.
  3. Take down posters immediately after run.
