About the Play
It's Christmas Eve on Saltspring Island. The stockings aren't hung by the chimney with
care and Bill Bannister hopes that St. Nick won't be there. Bill's worries centre on his
wife Sarah, 9 1/2 months pregnant and counting; their dog Karma, recently denuded to
make a baby blanket; and his recurring kleptomania. While Bill connives with local real
estate agent Bernice Snarpley, Sarah is consoled over a bottle of bubbly by their
wisecracking neighbours, Marti and Reverend Chris Kane.
Bill beds down in the living room to spend a lonely Christmas Eve when what to his
wondering eye does appear? None other than Santa Claus himself! Whisked off to Casa
Claus, location North Pole, in a miniature sleigh drawn by eight tiny reindeer, Bill meets
Mrs. Claus, a pair of cheeky elves, a certain red-nosed reindeer, and rediscovers the
hope, faith and spirit of Christmas.
